29th-Nov-2009 06:33 am - Help plz!
Me again :)

I recently put together a Paja Dal, but she's not done because I'm having a hard time deciding on the color of her eyelids. Paja's eyelids are unpainted, but she's a pullip, so you can't see them. Paja Dal is another story.

Step 14: Choose!

What color for the eyelids go best? Do I match the painted eyelashes, the hair eyelashes, the eyeshadow, or the eyebrows? Help!

Also, if anyone is interested, for this Dal I took a picture at each step to illustrate the whole customizing (and occasionally screwing up, but then fixing) process at my flickr HERE if you want to take a look. It should be interesting to see, since my 'first drafts' are rarely perfect.

29th-Nov-2009 03:16 am - Writers Showcase

Hello My Darling Winter Flames!

You may know him as [info]bwh , or you may know him as [info]one_time_pad , I call him OTP! Either way, he's one of our Oldie but Goodies, and he is our featured writer today! Go forth my darlings! Read, enjoy, comment!

Bio:

My name isn't one_time_pad, but it works well enough. I've been writing for about 22 years, and writing on Brigits' Flame since June of 2008. Signed up, was nearly voted out, turned around and won the month. I never quite recovered.

As someone with a Bachelor's degree in Word-Stuff, I read semi-voraciously. Browning and Danielewski were both formative writers for me; Emerson, Shakespeare and Gaiman are ready stand-byes; and Zafon is a recent discovery. After I enjoy a story, I rip sentences apart, digesting the good bits and adding techniques to my repertoire. And if I can turn that around and use it while editing someone else, so much the better!

In my spare time, I'm not a bad chef. I'm getting better at gardening and worse at mowing my lawn. I lecture at colleges. I've paid taxes on my band earnings. And I have four musty novel drafts and an out-of-date horror-fiction-website which need a lot of attention. In short, I have a hard time maintaining focus.

The Chosen Piece:

"[Y]ou have so many subtleties, nuances, etc. that I feel like I'm editing clockwork."
-- [info]lacombe , in editing the featured submission.

While I think my haiku was pretty funny, and my June '08 winning entry was technically flawless, I like this story the most out of anything I've submitted. When presented with the topic "Trash," I knew the Obvious Choice would be some dystopian hell where people are rooting through the remnants of our current society.

I hate the Obvious Choice.

So I knew I had to spin it in the opposite direction: something immaculately clean. What keeps this world clean? Why, a trash colLECTOR ...

The end result, I feel, captures a complex set of vibes ... presents a lot of different questions ... and turns a few ideas on their heads without mucking about too much with formatting and typesetting.

--but what do you think?

28th-Nov-2009 09:42 pm - Editors: Getting Organized
Hey, all. If you could take a minute to find yourself in my chart and make sure everything's right, I'd be very grateful. I won't be starting the editing post until 2 pm EST Sunday, so that gives you a fair amount of time to take a look. We should be good on editors for this week, but please, please, please get caught up, rejoin the active team, or join for the first time to help out with the December contest!

Also, if anyone has a Literary Library article that never got an edit, please let me know! We'd like to make sure all of those get a good once-over before that part of the website goes live.

28th-Nov-2009 08:21 pm - Week 1 Topic!
Hey peeps!

Lots of good stuff going on this weekend for me. :-) I'm in Rhode Island visiting family and friends!

Because last month had no theme, this is a themed month. Any guesses? Don't guess if I've already told you the theme ;-) Congrats to those who won/are winning NANO!

Remember, this is the last contest of the decade!

*** New Members: If you're competing for December, this is your first topic- link your entry in the poll below to have it counted in the competition! Also- if you haven't signed up for the competition please make sure you do by 8pm EST Monday, November 30.! Check out the Main Contest Rules for info and rules on the main contest! ***

--- Please remember to submit your entry link in the poll below! ---

Your topic for December, Week 1 is....

Cue

All the world's a stage, and we are its incompetent players. From walking down the street to picking out the appropriate urinal in a men's public restroon, we are guided by a constant barrage of social cues, both subtle and obvious. A glance across the room, a slight shifting in someone's weight, an uncomfortable cough in an elevator, or a deliberate silence- we orchestrate the lives of those around us in small and powerful ways.

Despite the power of the cue, we are, many of us, mere spear carriers in the grand play. Many of us have cast off the grandiose dreams of our youth, and we've stopped being the heroines and heroes of our nightly dreams. Life happens- how will you respond?

Consider this your cue to write something potent.

29th-Nov-2009 12:32 am - i'm looking for a head pullip
Hello everyone. I'm from Spain. I'm looking for a head-body pullip 1. I just want the head with the eye mechanism. I look for something very economical. Price in EUR and sending including Spain. Please urgent to find something economical. Head with eyes mechanism NO BODY, NO HAIR. Thanks
Hullo, folks! Welcome to another edition of the Literary Library Ideas post.

Quick overview )

Probably as a result of NaNo and other such busy-making factors, we had just one submission this month:
c) Stylistic suggestions
[info]tigerstriped86 wrote an article on ten cautionary tips about how to create an original and intriguing character.

Is the article easy to follow? Comprehensive? Do you have suggestions on how to make the article better? Let our author know! Articles will also be formally edited and revised by authors.

Thanks so much to our valiant submitter!

And finally, it's time for another Ideas Post! If you have an idea for a Literary Library Article, post it here in a comment! Please post your ideas here by Sunday, December 6 for consideration in December's articles.

A complete list of already-suggested article topics can be found under the cut: )

Hope to see some great new ideas!
